Dato’ Jagjit obtained his LL.B (Hons) degree from the University of London in 1984 and LL.M (Merits) from Kings College, London in 1996. He joined the Judicial and Legal Service as a Magistrate in Bintulu, Sarawak in 1989. In 1993 he was appointed as a Federal Counsel at the Civil Division, Attorney General Chambers where he handled civil litigation and arbitration matters involving the Government of Malaysia including personal injuries and fatal accident cases. He was promoted as a Deputy Treasury Solicitor, Ministry of Finance in 1993 and thereafter as a Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Health in 1996. In 1998 he was appointed as a Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP). In 2001 he was transferred as a Senior Assistant Drafting Officer, Drafting Division, Attorney General Chambers. From 2006 until 2016 Dato’ Jagjit served as a Sessions Court Judge at Kuantan, Seremban and Kuala Lumpur. He retired in 2016 as a Sessions Court Judge. Dato’ Jagjit was called to the Malaysian Bar on 28.3.2002.

He has authored two books namely “The Practical Approach to the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights” and “Civil Trials Guidebook”. As a Sessions Court Judge, he has handled numerous Civil and Criminal cases including personal injuries and fatal accident cases. His judgments have been reported in Current Law Journal (CLJ), All Malaysian Reports (AMR), Personal Injuries Reports (PIR) and Session and Magistrate’s Cases (SMC).

After retiring as a Sessions Court Judge, Dato’ Jagjit together with his Partner Wan Muhd Ariff Ameer established JAC and has been active in legal practice handling both civil and criminal cases. He has also served as:

  • Independent Non-Executive Chairman for Three-A Resources, a company listed on Main Board, Bursa Malaysia (2017 until now)
  • Independent and Non-Executive Director of Tokio Marine Insurans (Malaysia) Bhd. (2016 – 2017)
  • Member of the Task Force by the Malaysian Cabinet investigating into the book, “My Story: Justice in the Wilderness.”
  • Legal Advisor of Global Forway Sdn Bhd and Wiseyes Sdn Bhd, involved in the computerisation of PERKESO
  • Commissioner, Malaysia Competition Commission (1.4.2017 until 31.3.2023)

In sports law, Dato’ Jagjit is a Member of the Appeal Board of Football Association Malaysia (FAM) since 2016, and a Member of the Disciplinary Board of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) since 2021. He is also a registered Trademark Agent with the Malaysian Intellectual Property Organisation (MyIPO).
